ANC welcomes Aguma suspension
Updated | By Suné du Toit
The ANC Study Group on the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) has welcomed the suspension of SABC Chief Financial Officer (CFO) James Aguma.
Scopa recently recommended that Aguma be placed on suspension while the interim SABC board conducts a forensic investigation into irregularities in procurement and expenditure at the broadcaster.
Chief Whip of the ANC in Scopa, Mnyamezeli Booi says Aguma's suspension was unavoidable.
"It is quite important for all of us, as South Africans, as we look for services for our own people, that people who are employed to assist with delivery focus on the work they have been given by the institution," says Booi.

Booi says Aguma could not account for R5 billion in irregular and fruitless expenditure at the SABC.
"He kept on giving us wrong information and lying to us in Parliament in the Scopa meetings," says Booi.
"We spoke to a number of people within the institution and there was fear and intimidation of our people who worked with him within the institution and that made us come to the decision that he should be removed."
