ANC Women’s League ready for conference
Updated | By MornéJK jk
Preparations were on track for the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) elective conference next month, the organisation said on Thursday.
The national conference, themed “Radical Transformation of Women’s Socio-Economic Rights” would be held from August 5 – 8 in Gauteng.
”It is the view of the ANC Women’s League that our preparations towards the National Conference is on track. All nine provinces have held successful consolidating provincial general councils and we are confident our structures continue to engage on the necessary policies, programmes and resolutions towards the realisation of the conference theme,” the ANCWL said.
The conference would be attended by least 3,000 delegates, with 2,750 of them being voting delegates.
”The number of delegates per branch shall be in proportion to the branch’s membership in good standing. The remainder of the 10 percent of the voting delegates at the conference shall be allocated to the national executive committee NEC from among the provincial executive committees,” said the ANCWL.
The conference has been postponed several times since 2013 – the year in which it was supposed to be held.
The last time the conference was postponed was in May earlier this year, due to the death of party stalwart Ruth Mompati.
The league has had to deal with factionalism and disgruntled members in some provinces, which led to delays in holding the national conference.
