ANC won’t condemn anyone for leaving party, says Mabuza

Former deputy president David Mabuza says the governing party will not attack anyone who decides to leave the ANC.

At the same time, Mabuza reiterated his desire to remain in the party amid rumours he could join former president Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe party.
Mabuza, who stepped down as deputy president after he was replaced as the ANC second-in-command at the party’s national conference in December 2022, was questioned about Zuma's decision to support the newly formed MK party ahead of the May 29 elections.
Mabuza led a door-to-door election campaign in Olievenhoutbosch on Sunday.
"We are not really going to condemn anyone for making anyone for making any choice. Our choice is to remain within the ANC, and we are here," he told the media.
"We are going to continue campaigning. This time I am at the disposal of the national executive committee of the province, they will deploy me wherever they see the need.”
Mabuza has joined other ANC stalwarts on the campaign trail ahead of the national and provincial elections.
Former presidents Thabo Mbeki, Kgalema Motlanthe, as well as Mathews Phosa have also been campaigning on behalf of the party.
While the former ANC deputy president admitted that the party has made some mistakes, he believes it has also made significant progress over the past 30 years.
