ANC's Patricia Khumalo elected Ekurhuleni Speaker

She beat the DA's Shadow Shabangu by 11 votes earlier today. 

Of the 224 votes cast, Khumalo received 117, Shabangu 106 while one ballot was spoiled.

Ekurhuleni is the last of the Gauteng metros to hold an inaugural council meeting after Tshwane and the City of Johannesburg metros held theirs on Friday and Monday respectively.

Khumalo will now preside over the election of a new Mayor and Chief Whip.
