ANCWL: Happy birthday Mam' Winnie
Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
The ANC Women's League has described Winnie Madikizela-Mandela as an icon who has stood the test of time.
Madikizela-Mandela was celebrated at a gala dinner hosted by the women's league, which Madikizela-Mandela led for 10 years from 1993.
The struggle veteran's birthday ended with a bang following month long celebrations with politicians, musicians and ordinary South Africans attending a celebration held at Emperor's Palace.
Dressed in the ANC colours of green and gold, Mam' Winnie looked radiant accompanied by her granddaughter.

Among the gifts she received was a personalized doek with her face on it, while ANC national chairperson, Baleka Mbete, described Madikizela-Mandela as a unifier and the true mother of the nation.
"To see people who featured at different times. You heard comrade Cyril on the one side and Julius Malema on the other side - and it spoke of who you are - the essence of the woman who brings everyone together," Mbete said at the celebrations.
Women's league president Bathabile Dlamini said the league would ensure her legacy is known throughout the world.
"Comrade Winnie will remain a member of the ANC and a resilient one. Mama, thank you very much for driving the women's league during rocky days," Dlamini said.
