ANCYL to join ‘vat alles’ protest

The Tshwane Metro Police (TMPD) says no application has been received from the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) to join Friday’s march to the Union Buildings.

The march is in support of the 'vat alles' workers who were employed by a public works programme aimed at creating jobs for the unemployed in the city.

 

City of Tshwane mayoral spokesperson, Samkelo Mgobozi, says “the city received no application from the ANCYL as the law dictates, therefore the publicized protest will be treated as illegal”.

The TMPD received and approved a formal application for a march from all Tshwane 'vat alles' employees.

 

Tshwane Metro police spokesperson, Nonhlanhla Mgiba, says: “We have not received any formal application from the ANCYL if they join the march it will be considered as illegal.”

The ANCYL is persisted that they will join the march tomorrow and fight for the rights of employees.

 

ANCYL regional chairperson Lesego Makhubela  says: “The City of Tshwane is very much aware that we will join the march, the City of Tshwane is deliberately trying to fractionally demobilize the march by issuing out statements, and we received a go-ahead certificate approval.”

The march is scheduled to start from Burgers Park at 8 am and proceed to Tshwane House to deliver a memorandum before the protester will head to the Union Buildings to submit a second memorandum.
