KwaZulu-Natal police have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects who shot and killed the deputy regional secretary of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in the Moses Mabhida Region, Sthe Mhlongo.
Police spokesperson Thembeka Mbehele says the 35-year-old was approached by men pretending to be police officers.
"Unknown suspects came to his home and pretended to be police officers. He noticed that it wasn't police officers when he opened the door. The deceased tried to run away, but failed. He was severely injured in the head.
"Mhlongo was rushed to hospital but died on arrival. A case of murder is being investigated. We are looking for two suspects. The motive of the killing is unknown."
Mhlongo's death follows the killing of ANC activist Lungisani Mnguni, who was elected by his ANC branch as its delegate for the party's national conference in December.
