ANCYL to meet Tembisa doctors
Updated | By Neo Leeuw
The ANCYL will meet Gauteng health officials to discuss accommodation for student doctors at Tembisa hospital, on the East Rand.
"The meeting is aimed at finding out what progress has been made regarding accommodation at the hospital," African National Congress Youth League spokesman Sicelo Shembe said on Wednesday.
Nine student doctors reportedly had to sleep in the casualty ward at Tembisa hospital on Monday night after being locked out of their residence.
Shembe said Friday's meeting would seek a speedy resolution regarding accommodation at the hospital.
"We also want the removal of incapable managers to root out maladministration at the hospital."
Thirteen student doctors were reportedly forcibly removed from flats the hospital had rented at Midrand Village after the lease expired at the end of September. Four of them found alternative accommodation. The others were accommodated at a hospital residence, which had previously been occupied by student nurses.
However, they were locked out after protesting on Monday that the residence did not meet Health Professions Council of SA standards.
