Another dam wall bursts in disaster-hit Jagersfontein
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
There has been yet another mine dam wall burst in Jagersfontein in the Free State.
Premier Sisi Ntombela has called for calm as a disaster team has been sent to the affected area in Charlesville.
This comes just weeks after the actual mine dam wall collapsed, killing one person and displacing hundreds of people.
The cause of the latest incident is suspected to be the recent rainfall in the area.
The premier's spokesperson Palesa Chubisi said that police and emergency services have been deployed to the area.
"The Free State provincial government is still trying to establish the extend of the water flow, however, it is understood that the water is running through the neighbourhood of Charlesville and the nearby Dennis Louw farm.
"The R706 is closed to traffic, and motorists are advised to use an alternative gravel road to Fauresmith in order to access Jagersfontein. The police, as well as the emergency services, are currently on the scene."
