Another massive spike in Covid-19 infections, deaths

The number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa has seen another drastic spike.
The Health Department said on Friday that it had recorded 13 373 new cases in the past 24 hours.
There is now a cumulative total of 337 594 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
“In the Eastern Cape we stand now at 58 816 and in the Free State 8290 and in Gauteng 123408, KwaZulu-Natal 37 722, Limpopo 4160, Mpumalanga 6073, North West 12 722, Northern Cape 2044 and Western Cape 84 254,” said Health Minister Zweli Mkhize.
“Regrettably, we also have to report the loss of additional lives. Here we have lost 135 Covid-19 related patients.”
The death toll now stands at 4804.
Mkhize added that there have been 178 183 recoveries.

He says it has been proven that in mild cases the infection is only present for about eight days. Asymptomatic patients will also have to remain isolated for 10 days. Mkhize briefed media on Friday evening on the revised de-isolation guidelines, as well as the track and trace system.
