Another nationwide shutdown in Zimbabwe

Most Zimbabweans preferred to stay at home on Wednesday following a call by opposition leaders for a nationwide stay away.
Opposition parties in the country have joined forces under the banner of the National Electoral Reform Agenda (Nera).

They are protesting against various issues, including the use of Bond Coins, corruption and the dire economic situation in Zimbabwe.
It was peaceful in Bulowayo this morning, with very few shops opening their doors.
JacarandaFM News correspondent, Zenzele Ndebele said banks and government departments remained open, after a warning by government that shop owners would face consequences if they did not go to work.
"There is a heavy police presence in the city. I can see about five or six police water cannons and five trucks with riot police at City Hall," Ndebele said.
Last week a march - that was given the green light by a High Court - was disrupted by the police, who fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters.
Meanwhile, there are also warnings on social media of a telecommunications blackout from 10.00am.
