Appointment of new prime minister to AmaZulu nation 'not politically motivated'
Zulu culture expert at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Dr Gugu Mazibuko, says the appointment of a new traditional minister to the AmaZulu nation was long overdue.
The AmaZulu King, Misuzulu Ka Zwelithini on Saturday appointed Thulasizwe Buthelezi into the role, which was left vacant by the passing of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
Buthelezi died in September last year.
Mazibuko said the new traditional prime minister, who takes over the role from his father, is seasoned in the nation’s affairs.
"In my view it has been a long wait for the nation to have the traditional prime minister, after the demise of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
"There was that vacuum which is now filled by the appointment of Reverend Thulasizwe.
"I do not think this appointment was politically motivated because, much as Buthelezi is a member of the IFP, he was very much active in the affairs of the Zulu nation.
"To him, is a matter of taking the position and moving forward and further learn from the people who were working closely with the previous traditional prime minister, Inkosi Mangosuthu Buthelezi," she added.
