Hacktivists claiming to be linked to Anonymous claimed responsibility for hacking the arms procurement parastatal's Settlement and Invoicing system by injecting the website with a Structured Query Language (SQL).

Armscor's general manager for marketing and business development Lulu Mzili said an investigation has been concluded.

"We want to reassure our stakeholders that our investigation has found that no classified information was accessed. As part of our IT infrastructure renewal, we are looking into implementing measures to ensure a breach does not happen again," she said.

Cyber tech experts were brought in to conduct the investigation.

She said the breach in no way compromised strategic defence plans in terms of highly confidential tenders.

According to initial reports - the group leaked 64MB of data containing mainly the ordering and payment records for different suppliers, which includes companies such as Boeing, Fulcrum and Rolls Royce.

The data was said to have washed up on the dark web, a layer of the internet not easily accessed by the public.
