Arson suspected in Germiston train fires
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Metrorail says it suspects that arson may be behind the blaze that gutted two of its trains at Germiston Station on Tuesday.
The damage to the trains, which were parked at two separate platforms, is expected to cost Metrorail R6.5million.
Metrorail spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng says police are investigating the incident.
"We are working closely along with law enforcement to make sure that arrests are made soon," she says.
Meanwhile, Metrorail says shuttle services will be made available to commuters.
"We do not have services running around Germiston Station at this moment meaning we are running shuttle trains for the moment just outside of Germiston," Mofokeng adds.
