Assault accused Bloemfontein cops granted bail

The two female police officers accused of assaulting a member of the public at the Heidedal police station in Bloemfontein have been granted a bail of R1000 each.

Sergeant Mamorena Shuping and Constable Lucia Marumo appeared in Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday with charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
It is alleged that Stephanie Booysen went to the police station in January after her boyfriend violated a protection order.
In a video-making round on social media, the two officers are seen assaulting Booysen.
“Allegedly a disagreement between the victim and the officers led to her being assaulted inside the police station,” said the Independent Police Investigative Directorate spokesperson Lizzy Suping.
“The victim allegedly suffered body injuries.”
Both the officers’ cases have been postponed to the 7th of March 2025 to allow the Director of Public Prosecutions to decide on whether the charge is appropriate.
