Assault charges laid against EFF
Updated | By Algoa FM
Police are investigating two cases of assault laid against members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
This follows an incident shortly after President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address on Thursday, where an EFF MP was caught on video slapping police officer Johan Carstens.
Carstens, who was responsible for coordinating the exit area following the event, is seen attempting to stop Malema walking through the doors of the National Assembly.
An altercation ensued with Carstens slapped across the face.

Parliament condemned the incident and ordered a probe before taking appropriate action.
The EFF claims Dlamini was acting in self-defence because the party had received threats on the life of leader Julius Malema in a bid to undermine land expropriation without compensation.
National police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo says two police officers have opened cases against the red berets following the incident.
