Athol Trollip joins Action SA
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Veteran politician Athol Trollip has joined the newly formed party Action SA.
The announcement was made by the party's leadership in Gqeberha on Wednesday.
Party leader Herman Mashaba was also present at the press briefing.
Trollip, a former Nelson Mandela Bay mayor and Democratic Alliance (DA) member, says he is joining Action SA because he wants to see democratic change in South Africa.
He left the party in 2019 after Helen Zille returned as the party's federal executive.
"I want to see democratic change here in South Africa in my life. Many of us thought people of my age would see political change. We did see change in 1994 and I want it to come again."

Trollip says that making the decision to leave the DA was not an easy one.
"I want to tell you that the decision to join another political party was difficult because it was my home since I was a school boy.
"It was made even more difficult because I had served as a representative for 25 years. I believe that I had a long loyal, respectful and respectable relationship with that political party."
Trollip joins the long list of former Democratic Alliance (DA) members who have found a new home with Action SA.
Former DA Midvaal Mayor Bongani Baloyi recently jumped ship in search of greener pastures with Action SA, while Mashaba himself is also a former DA member.
