B-BBEE has failed and needs to be replaced, says ActionSA

ActionSA will use its upcoming policy conference to draft an alternative to the government’s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) policies, which the party claims have failed to curb inequality, poverty, and unemployment.

The party briefed the media on its state of readiness for its inaugural policy conference in Johannesburg on Thursday.

More than 600 delegates from all nine provinces will attend the conference, which will decide on the party's policy direction as it prepares to contest the national and provincial elections in 2024.

ActionSA’s national chairperson Michael Beaumont said the party will be looking to repeal B-BBEE Act when it gains power.

He said the party will replace the current act with the new tranche of social justice policies.

"ActionSA is opposed to the act. We are not opposed to the empowerment of Black people. We are fundamentally for the empowerment of people who have been disadvantaged by our unjust past. Part of that policy suite is what we call the opportunity fund. The fund will tackle the investment in skills developments and access to financing for small businesses," he said.

Some of the policies on the ActionSA police conference agenda:

Universal Basic Grant

Beaumont said the BIG will grow the country's economy at a rate of 5% per cent and lift South Africans out of their economic depression.

A tough on Crime approach

"More prisons should be built so that we never have a situation again where thousands of people are being released from jail for the sake of one person, gaining their freedom,'' said Beaumont.

Energy Stability Policy

Beaumont said the country has been dealing with load shedding for the past 16 years, and it is vital for ActionSA to prioritise energy stability.

Immigration

"We are going to focus strongly on immigration through a package that deals with improving our border patrols, to the deportation of people who are in this country illegally and particularly have committed crimes, and the documentation of those people who should be in our country but are adversely affected by a failing Home Affairs that allows them to be exploited," said Beaumont.
