When paramedics arrived on scene the two were found lying in the road.
“After assessment it was found that the child had sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on scene. The mother sustained moderate injuries and was treated and transported by provincial services to Helen Joseph Hospital for further treatment”, Rossouw said.
The taxi driver was uninjured.
