Back to school for inland provinces

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) says it is ready to welcome pupils back to school for the new academic year.
Pupils in inland provinces will be returning back to school on Wednesday.
The pupils will start yet another academic year under challenging Covid-19 conditions and will have to comply with relevant health protocols.
This has affected the quality of teaching and learning in the previous year.
Briefing the media on Tuesday, the minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga said all primary schools should open at full capacity.
“Primary schools functioning on a full capacity basis should practice maximum feasible physical distancing between learners. Ideally, all children should be at least one meter apart within classrooms, but where this is not possible, full capacity should still be commenced while maintaining the maximum feasible physical distance,” she said.
“High schools can immediately resume full capacity learning of a physical distance separation of one meter between learners can be ensured,” she noted.
MEC’s in various provinces have been deployed to schools to conduct monitoring and oversight.
Motshekga will be in Randfontein, Gauteng on Wednesday morning.
