Bail application of Charl Kinnear murder-accused moved to another court

The bail application of former rugby player and murder-accused Zane Killian has been transferred to Bellville Regional Court in Cape Town.

Kilian is accused of the murder of Western Cape anti-gang unit's head Charl Kinnear.

 

The former professional rugby player is also facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder and unlawful interception of communication.

 

He made his fourth appearance in court since his arrested in Gauteng last month.

 

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority(NPA) in the Western Cape Eric Ntabazalila says the case was moved from Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court due to security concerns.

 

"After all parties agreed that the matter needs to move from that court and the state was tasked with securing a new venue for the bail application.

 

"Late last Friday, the state was advised by the president of the regional court that a new venue has been secured.

 

"Before the start of formal court proceedings this morning, parties met with the regional court magistrate to discuss dates for the bail application," said Ntabazalila.

 

Kinnear is expected to apply for bail on 26, 27 and 30 October.

The 39-year-old suspect made his first appearance in Bishop Lavis Magistrates' Court in Cape Town on Friday. The Hawks arrested him in Gauteng on Wednesday.
