Bail denied for murder-accused
A man accused of killing and robbing the owner of a shop in front her children earlier this month has been denied bail at the Kempton Park Regional Court.
Clement Kgothatso Ramawela, 25, will remain in police custody until his next appearance, court clerk Sechaba Mabena said on Thursday.
The matter was postponed to April 16 for the office of the director of public prosecutions to give instructions on the case. It was also moved from Regional court one to court two, Mabena said.
Ramawela was arrested on March 8.
He was believed to be a former employee at Annemarie van Zyl's shop in Newton Street, Kempton Park, Captain Jethro Mtshali said at the time.
He allegedly entered the shop around 7.30am on a Saturday morning, withdrew a sharp instrument, and stabbed the woman several times.
He then walked out of the shop with an undisclosed amount of money, Mtshali said.
The woman's daughters, aged six and eight, were at the shop during the incident.
The eight-year-old girl called out for help shortly after the man left the shop.
"Fortunately, police were patrolling near the scene of the crime and saw the man... He was arrested," Mtshali said.
His hands were allegedly covered in blood. The man was charged with business robbery and murder.
