The acting director-general for hospital services Dr Medupi Modisane confirmed that the strike is over.

Workers agreed to go back following an agreement with the hospital on several issues, including the suspension of acting CEO Sifiso Maseko.

The workers claimed that Maseko interfered in the appointment of staff members to benefit himself.

"The hospital acting CEO Dr Sifiso Maseko is still on special leave and the department is going to appoint someone who will hold the fort. No other staff members will be moved until the investigation is completed," says Dr Modisane.

The trade unions also demanded the release of a report into corruption at the hospital.

Modisane says the hospital will also establish an independent investigation into the allegations levelled by the unions.

"An independent team of investigators will be roped in to investigate all allegations made, the unions agreed to assist the process by handing over the evidence they have including possible sworn affidavits to the HOD. Diversions were lifted yesterday and the services are rendered as normal."

Spokesperson for the hospital staff Yandisa Zungula said the workers are happy with the outcome of the meeting.

"We have some agreements with the department, other areas are still outstanding but we are happy with the process. Remember we were calling for the acting CEO to be removed that has been done. The department will be announcing a new acting CEO according to our meeting that will be done in 24 hours."
