The Johannesburg Magistrate's Court has sentenced former social development minister Bathabile Dlamini to four years in prison or a fine of R200 000 following her conviction on a charge of perjury.
Dlamini, who is also the president of the ANC Women’s League, wat sentenced by Magistrate Betty Khumalo on Friday.
She was earlier convicted on a charge of perjury for testimony she gave at a Constitutional Court hearing into the 2017 grants crisis.
Half of the sentence has been suspended.
Dlamini's lawyer Advocate Tshepiso Mphahlane assured the court that she will pay the initial R20 000 on Friday and the rest by the deadline of 29 April.
Mphahlane further pleaded with the court for Dlamini to remain on a warning and not be taken into custody.
The request was granted.
