‘Big Brother’ helping Tzaneen fight Covid-19
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Police and municipal officials of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality in Limpopo have deployed two drones to ensure compliance of the lockdown regulations.
One drone is fitted with speakers to broadcast a message from Mayor Maripe Mangena - urging residents comply with measures to curb Covid-19.
The second drone records movement and feeds it back to the police.
Municipal spokesperson Neville Ndlala says while the drones are in one part of the village, police are deployed to another.
"We have about three drones but we use two drones. One has a loudspeaker and the other is taking footage.
"Depending on how active the day is, another team will be deployed in another area. When we pick up any non-compliance we are able to talk through the drone, we can actually talk to the people wherever we are, wherever they are.”

Ndlala says the drones are making a huge difference in the fight against coronavirus.
"There is a change. For the first one, when we used it for five days and took a break, when we went to the areas there's a change.
"Now there are more people that understand that they need to stay home that they need to comply.”
