A motorbike rider died in a crash in Midrand, north of Johannesburg, on Friday, paramedics said.

"A motorcyclist has tragically lost his life after his motorcycle rear-ended a motor vehicle on the N1 south-bound just past the New Road on-ramp in Midrand this morning," said Netcare 911 spokeswoman Santi Steinmann.
The motorcycle apparently fell on top of the rider and burst into flames.
Police would investigate the cause of the accident.
