Bird flu spreads to Joburg
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Joburg City Parks has confirmed that Johannesburg is the latest city to bear the brunt of bird flu.
Dead carcasses have been collected around Westdene, Zoo Lake and the Emmarentia Dam.
The Joburg Zoo has also been affected.
Around 583 carcasses have been collected and incinerated.
"Seasonal migration of free-roaming birds has aided the spread unfortunately and this has affected the City of Joburg," says Joburg City Parks' Jenny Moodley.
Moodley says people are not affected by the outbreak.
"It is not contagious for human beings, necessary bio-security measures are in place to contain the spread of the virus".
