Blaze at Springs home claims life of mother, two toddlers
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
A 36-year-old mother and her two toddlers have been killed in a house fire in Springs, east of Johannesburg.
The two-year-old was found with third-degree burn wounds while the mother and the four-year-old died of smoke inhalation.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the fire broke out during a power outage due to load shedding on Sunday.
Ekurhuleni emergency services spokesperson Eric Maloka says the victims were identified by the father.
"Upon arrival firefighters found a two-bedroom house that was on fire, immediately after containing the fire the search and rescue discovered three bodies.
“The cause of the fire is unknown but it is suspected that because of the load shedding they were using other heating devices, even though it was not confirmed."
