BLF finds 'another target'
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The Black First Land First (BLF) movement is set to stage a “peaceful protest” outside MiWay’s head office.
It comes after the insurance company landed itself in hot water this week.
A racist email, alleged to be from the company, went viral yesterday.
The email states the company will reject 90% of black people’s claims.
It further refers to black people as baboons.
MiWay claims the email is the work of a vengeful and dissatisfied client.
BLF spokesperson, Zanele Lwana, says they don’t trust MiWay.
"When a white-owned company says this is fake, the media believes them and does not probe further. We do not trust white people to investigate racism. We will take it upon ourselves to investigate this matter," Lwana says.
MiWay CEO, Rene Otto, told Jacaranda FM News, they traced the origins of the email.
"This is the closest thing to fake news on steroids. We know who sent it. It’s a client whose claim we didn’t pay for good reason. We will be instituting criminal and civil action against this individual.”
Lwana says they want the details of the client.
"We want to ask them about their stance on racism. But we also want the details of this so-called client they claim is pushing this campaign. It’s interesting that when MiWay says something is fake, the media believe them. But when other people including my organisation dismisses things as fake news, nobody believes us," she argues.
