The arrests follow several incidents where motorists were stopped by hijackers who used blue lights and posed as police officers.

Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says the suspects were arrested after a similar hijacking on Friday night.

"A man who had parked at the gate of a friend's home, suddenly saw another vehicle parking behind him,” Masondo explains.

"Three men with firearms came out of the vehicle that was flashing blue lights.

"They introduced themselves as fraud unit members who are on investigations and put the victim in their vehicle while another man drove the victim's vehicle.”

The victim was dropped off in Soshanguve, while his vehicle was recovered at a house in Mabopane where the suspects' vehicle was also found.

"Investigations are underway to establish if these suspects are not linked to other incidents of similar modus operandi,” says Masondo.

"This arrest comes just in five days after a couple was allegedly hijacked by suspects using a car fitted with blue lights on the R59, near Sedibeng.”
