Body of wanted suspect found in Limpopo police cell

The body of a high-profile murder and rape suspect has been found in the cells at a police station in Letsitele outside Tzaneen.

Limpopo police believe 40-year-old Chikinyongo Masinge was murdered by his fellow inmates.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says Masinge was arrested on various charges of attempted murder, rape and assault.
His body was found in the cells shortly after his arrest.

“Some of his alleged gruesome deeds included the rape of a woman who was fetching firewood together with her companion and then chopped her hand with a sharp instrument,” says Mojapelo.
“This incident nearly sparked violence when community members wanted him arrested. He was ultimately arrested at Burgersdorp outside Tzaneen where he was hiding.”
Police have launched an investigation into the suspect’s murder.
