Body of reported missing Mpumalanga man found partly burnt, dumped
Police in Mpumalanga are investigating the circumstances that lead to the murder, burning and dumping of the body of a man.
The body of 49-year-old Thulani Thabethe was found partly burnt and dumped in the backyard of someone's house at Siyathemba in Balfour on Thursday morning.
The discovery was made four days after Thabethe was reported missing.
Last week, Mpumalanga Police arrested two teenagers following the murder and discovery of the body of a 15-year-old girl at Goede section in Balfour.
Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson Selvy Mohlala says Thabethe’s family was called to the scene to identify the body.
“Police were doing their routine patrols when they were stopped by a person who made a gruesome discovery in his backyard at about 08h30am. He informed police about the unknown motionless body in his yard.
“Police responded and it was during this period when they found the body wrapped with a blanket and partly burnt. Medical practitioners also attended the scene and a person was unfortunately certified dead.
“The victim was identified by his family members who was reported missing on Sunday, 17 December 2023 at about 21h00. The motive behind the heartless killing is unknown at this stage.”
No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
