Bottle store and supermarket burnt in Alex

Gauteng police have arrested six suspects after a bottle store and supermarket were looted and set alight by community members.

The looting began on Monday evening and continued into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
This follows several incidents of looting in parts of Ekurhuleni, Tshwane and the Johannesburg CBD on Monday.

Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubela says police used rubber bullets and teargas to disperse the looters in Alexandra.
"They broke the locks on the shops. That's clear criminal activitity, that's why we treat them as criminals."
The Johannesburg metro police says calm was restored on 2nd and London Road in Alexandra on Tuesday morning.
