An 11-year-old boy has been hit by a stray bullet on a playground in Randfontein, west of Johannesburg.
The incident took place in the Zenzele area on Thursday.
The police’s Carmen Hendricks says the boy was hit in the upper body.
“On Thursday, Randfontein police members received a complaint at Bekkersdal clinic of a person that was shot in Zenzele. Upon their arrival they found a 11-year-old boy that was shot on his upper body by a stray bullet while playing on the grounds in Zenzele.”
Hendricks says it seems the boy was shot by someone who was firing random shots.
“It was alleged that on that specific day there was a memorial service in Zenzele where an unknown person was shooting randomly, when the bullet hit the victim.
“A case of attempted murder has been opened, and the case is still under investigation.”
