Boy attacked Griekwastad family

A 17-year-old boy attacked the Steenkamp family on their farm and nobody else, the Northern Cape High Court heard on Tuesday.

"Why would the attacker be so kind to (only) him," argued prosecutor Hannes Cloete.
He said the defence's submission of a possibility that there could have been another person on the murder scene was wrong.
"It makes no sense."
Northern Cape Judge President Frans Kgomo was listening to final arguments in the murder and rape trial of the boy.
The youth is accused of shooting dead farmer Deon Steenkamp, 44, his wife Christel, 43, and their daughter Marthella, 14, on April 6 2012.
He faces an additional charge of raping Marthella and of lying to the police.
Cloete argued there were no grounds for the criticism of the police investigation into the Steenkamp murders.
He told the court as prosecutor he could find no faults.
"The scene was recorded like few others."
Cloete also argued there was no merit in the argument of the defence in regard to the green Jeep jacket.
"It was Deon's jacket and nobody else's," Cloete submitted.
He argued that further tests on the jacket would have made no difference to the case.
Replying to the defence's criticism on the handling of DNA, Cloete said there was too little foreign DNA found to create a proper profile.
The prosecutor submitted to court it was significant that the defence said nothing in evidence that the boy could not hear the girl's screams.
The court heard he was about 16 metres from where the girl was allegedly attacked.
"I do not blame them on this point. There is no answer to this."
Earlier, the boy's legal counsel Riaan Bode argued that the rape charge against the boy had no relevance to the murders.
Bode submitted the evidence indicated that the alleged sexual injuries were caused 12 to 72 hours before death.
Bode urged the court to take notice of this time factor and the possibility that a rape could not have taken place during the attack.
The time factor did not fit, he argued.
Bode further questioned the State's charge of rape on the grounds that there were not enough facts on which to rest the allegation.
Kgoma said he would give judgment on Thursday.
