Boy dies in Joburg fire

An 11-year-old boy burnt to death in a house fire in Alexandra on Tuesday morning, Johannesburg emergency services said.

   

"His three-year-old younger sister survived the blaze unharmed," spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said in a statement.

   

"The cause of the fire is not known at the moment. However, there are allegations that it might be an electrical heater which was being used by the children when the fire started."

   

He said the allegations would be investigated by the forensic fire investigating team.

   

Mulaudzi urged parents to make sure young children using heating  and lighting appliances were not be left without adult supervision.
