A 38-year-old man who fired an airgun during Monday’s protests at Brackenfell High School in Cape Town has been released on a warning.

Jaco Pretorius appeared in the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Pretorius fired a gun on Monday during the clashes between members of the community and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) outside the school.
The EFF members were protesting against alleged racism at the school.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Western Cape Eric Ntabazilala says Pretorius will appear in court again next year.
“He is charged with discharging a firearm in a public place and his case has been postponed to the 25th of January 2021 for further investigations.
“The state says that Pretorius discharged a firearm during a clash between members of EFF who were protesting outside Brackenfell High School, when there was a clash between them and some members of the community who were allegedly there to protect the school and learners of the school.”
