VIP BODY GUARD TO APPEAR IN COURT FOR MURDER: A VIP protection unit warrant officer will appear in court this morning after he was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and daughter. According to the Police's Independent Police Investigative Directorate, the 46-year-old officer, from the VIP protection unit at the Union Buildings, shot his 23-year-old daughter and his 42-year-old wife at their home in Pretoria West.


IPID spokesperson, Grace Langa, says the couple allegedly had a disagreement in the morning before the officer left for his cousin's funeral arrangement, and when he returned home in the evening, it is alleged he asked his wife to cook for him. While the wife was cooking, he allegedly went to another room where he fetched a firearm and went back to shoot his wife and their daughter.

SA MEN IN ZIM COURT OVER SABLE ANTELOP: It's reported from Zimbabwe that three South African men have appeared in the Beitbridge magistrate's court for illegally capturing 29 sable antelopes and attempting to export them without a permit.


Reuters reports that the men tried to drive the antelope, valued at around 5-million rand, from a private game farm in Vic Falls to South Africa. They were discovered when the trucks carrying the animals got stuck in the river.  Our correspondent in Zimbabwe, Zenzele Ndebele reports that the men face jail time of between five and ten years.

SHUT DOWN IN LIMPOPO CALLED OFF: In Limpopo, the disruptive "Shut down" of the Vuwani area has been called off following intervention by deputy-president Cyril Ramaphosa. This means schools and businesses in the area will be open for the first time in two weeks. The shutdown is part of the residents protest against incorporation into the new stand-alone Malamulele municipality. Community leader, Chief Levhuwani Matsila says the fact that Ramaphosa came to hear their plight in person, made the difference. 

DJOKOVIC WINS US OPEN: Novak Djokovic has cemented his status as the world's number one tennis player, by taking the US Open in New York earlier this morning in four sets against world number two and crowd favourite, Roger Federer. It's the 28-year old Djokovic's 3rd major title of the year. It was the 42nd match between the two and Federer says his loss against Djokovic makes it square at 21 each.

WORST NEWS EVER: An Oregon man faces charges after authorities say he urinated on passengers on a flight from Anchorage to Portland, Oregon. Jeff Rubin, 27, was arrested early on Friday after JetBlue Flight 47 arrived at Portland International Airport, KOIN-TV reported.


A police report says passengers and airline employees told officers Rubin had been sleeping for most of the flight. About 30 minutes before landing, they said, he stood up and began urinating through the crack between the seats in front of him - and onto the passengers sitting there. The report says he lost his balance and fell backward, splashing urine on passengers, seats and luggage.

SA MODEL, CANDICE SWANEPOEL FALLS ON RUNWAY: SA born model, Candice Swanepoel has become a victim of the runway. This is not uncommon on the runway and the model recovered very gracefully.
