VARSITY CUP MATCH DISRUPTED: The FNB Varsity Cup match between FNB Madibaz and hosts FNB UFS Shimlas at Shimla Park, Bloemfontein, was disrupted on Monday night due to protest action. Play was stopped 17 minutes into the first half when protesters invaded the field of play at which stage the Shimlas leading 12-7. "We have contingency plans in place for dealing with match interruptions," says Duitser Bosman, Varity Sports CEO. "The possible disruption of matches due to pitch invasion by individuals and groups with other agendas on our campuses was discussed at length at previous Varsity Cup board meetings.

TUKS PROTEST NOT JUST A LANGUAGE ISSUE ANYMORE: One of the many demands by the UPrising movement is a total transformation at the University. According to UPrising's Karabo Sekhukhune their demands go far beyond Afrikaans. She says the client centre should be renamed to the student centre while they were also demanding that the name Tuks be changed.

CLASSES DISRUPTED AT DUT: Lectures were disrupted at the Durban University of Technology on Monday with the university's management claiming that about 100 students "rampaged" through some of the institution's Durban campuses. University spokesman Alan Khan said in a statement released on Monday afternoon that a group of students threw stones, set off fire hydrants and intimidated other students. He lay the blame for the disruptions at the university's student representative council (SRC).

ANC EMBRACES GAUTENG PREMIER'S SOPA SPEECH: ANC Provincial Ministers have embraced Premier David Makhura's State of the province address. They've lauded his speech as comprehensive and a reflection of improved governance. Makhura said only one department - the Department of Health did not received a clean audit. Samkele Maseko reports. 

KREJCIR SENTENCING POSTPONED: In Johannesburg, sentencing proceedings against Czech fugitive, Radovan Krejcir and 5 others had to stand down yesterday after a security threat. The South Gauteng High Court was still in sitting, when one of the policemen in the courtroom asked the judge to adjourn due to a bomb threat. Nothing was found. Silindelo Masikane reports.
