DEFENCE MINISTER TO BRIEF THE MEDIA ON PLANE DEBACLE: Defence and Military Veterans Minister, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, will host a media briefing at the Waterkloof Air Force base for Friday 28 August, to address issues around the Deputy Presidents' official trip to Japan on a privately owned jet. The story is making headline news, after it emerged that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa flew in a privately owned jet belonging to a company owned by the controversial Gupta family and in which Duduzane Zuma also has a stake. The Defence Department confirmed on Wednesday that government leased the plane as part of a contract managed by the National Treasury.

ANC VS EFF: The ANC is accusing the EFF of using students as cannon fodder for its own political gains. This after yesterday's violence at the Tshwane University of Technology's Pretoria West campus. The ruling party blames EFF leader Julius Malema, for EFF supporters and those supporting the Pasma students organisation attacking each other. Students at the TUT will today vote for the new Student Representative Council and as Silindelo Masekhane reports, Malema didn't back down amidst the violence.

GUN CONTROL IN THE US UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT: Gun control in the US is under renewed scrutiny, following yesterday's shocking shooting on live TV in Virginia, during which a TV presenter and camera man were killed by a former colleague. The suspect - who was known as Bryce Williams - was later found in his car on a highway with a bullet wound and died in hospital. Police Sheriff Bill Overton says they are also investigating a barrage of tweets before the killings, in which Williams described his motives.

PRESIDENT ZUMA HOSTS JUDICIARY MEETING: President Jacob Zuma will host the much anticipated meeting of the Executives and the Judiciary today - to discuss working relations between the two arms of the state. It was requested by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng in July, after an extra-ordinary meeting of judges. That followed the court drama in June, when the High court in Pretoria ordered government to prevent Sudanese president Omar Al Bashir from leaving South Africa while he was here for the African Union Summit. He faced international arrest warrants by die International Criminal Court, for war crimes. However, Al Bashir's plane was given the green light to fly out of the country from the Waterkloof Air force Base, and government was accused of ignoring a court ruling.

BEST NEWS: South Africa's Wayde van Niekerk clocked 43.48 seconds to win the men's 400m title at the world athletics championships on Wednesday. American LaShawn Merritt came second in 43.65 seconds with Grenada's Kirani James in third place in 43.78. Enditem.

WORST NEWS: Donald Trump awkwardly dodged a couple of questions about the Bible, which he's called "his favourite book." He refused to name a favourite Bible verse, and when asked which Testament he preferred, he answered "Probably equal." His statements sent twitter into a frenzy with #TrumpBible that trended across the globe. Have a look at the awkward interview below:
