TRAIN CRASH IS BEING INVESTIGATED: Train services in Gauteng are running this morning - but considerably slower than normal. This after yesterday morning's crash between two passenger trains at the Denver station in Jo'burg. Metrorail's Lillian Mofokeng says the investigation into the cause of the crash is still on-going. She confirmed that 168 of the 250 people injured have been released from hospitals so far. One person died and two are in a critical condition - but Mofokeng says they are busy recalculating all the numbers. In the meantime, commuters are urged to be patient or use other transport this morning.


 

 


ZUMA IN ZIMBABWE: President Jacob Zuma will be leading a South African delegation to Zimbabwe for the SADC extraordinary development summit today. Zimbabwe's information minister, Jonathan Moyo, has meanwhile criticized Zuma's Freedom day speech, delivered at the Union Buildings on Monday, on twitter saying it could  be interpreted as "an unfortunate justification" of the recent xenophobic attacks. Our minister in the presidency, Jeff Radebe yesterday however gave the assurance that the spate of xenophobic attacks were contained and that South Africa's relations were still in tackt. Karabo Ngoepe reports.


 

 


PALMRIDGE MAGISTRATES COURT: In the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court and Czech businessman, Radovan Krecjir and seven others will this morning appear on charges of conspiring to kill a police officer and a forensic investigator, Paul O'Sullivan. While in the same court - Maruschka Robinson's boyfriend Jean-Pierre Malan is expected to take the stand in the murder trial of Dustan Blom. Blom's body was found in the boot of a car in the parking lot of Monte Casino. 


DOG FIGHTERS IN COURT: To the courts and six people will appear in the Protea Magistrates Court in Soweto today - after being caught taking part in a dog fight in Lawley, the past weekend. According to the NSPCA's Wendy Wilson, they raided a house in the area and found the American Pit bulls in a dire state. Two pit bulls had to be put down while 10 others - including a puppy - were rescued.

GIFT OF THE GIVERS ENROUTE TO NEPAL: The South African aid, search and rescue team of around 40 are due to land in Katmandu later this morning in the Gift of the Givers co-ordinated mission to help in the quake devastated Nepal. All South Africans have so far been accounted for but it was yesterday estimated that the death toll could rise to 10 000. The team's Ahmed Bham said that they are expecting the worst when they arrive. 


 

 


BALTIMORE WOMEN NAMED MOM OF THE YEAR: A Baltimore mother is being hailed a hero, some calling her "Mother of the Year" for doing her part to disperse the violence after a video of her slapping her son in front of everyone when she spotted him rioting and throwing rocks at police emerged. WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAGE USED IN THIS VIDEO
