TUKS OPEN FOR ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES: The Vice chancellor of the University of Pretoria, Cheryl De La Rey confirmed this morning that their campuses will re-open today under stringent added security measures. She told the Complimentary Breakfast that searches would be done on students and vehicles at the gates. The SACP's Jacob Mamabolo on Sunday said there would be no politics on campus on Monday morning. The University re-opens today after consensus amongst different interest groups and political parties at the weekend, which was rejected by members of the EFF's student command.

UFS OPEN FOR ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES: The University of the Free State's Lacea Loader confirmed on Monday morning that they too will re-open after its closure on last Tuesday following clashes at a rugby match. However, the SRC president, Lindokhule Nthuli has vowed to continue their protest.

N1 PARTIALLY CLOSED: The Joburg Metro police reminded motorists of the closures on the M1 highway from Monday morning. Construction work would be carried out on the 'double decker' in a northbound direction during peak hour traffic. Two lanes of the M1 towards Rosebank off-ramp would be closed until March 2017.

AND THE OSCAR GOES TO: The 88th Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles last night and here are the winners. Leonardo DiCaprio wins the Academy Award for best actor for his performance in The Revenant. The Oscar is his first after six nominations since 1994. The audience gives him a standing ovation and wild applause.
