Six suspects are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the armed robbery at the offices of security company Fidelity in Pretoria in November 2020.
The suspects were arrested in Hammanskraal, Lotus Gardens and Phillip Nel in Pretoria on Friday evening.
"During the suspects’ apprehension, the investigation team seized unlicensed firearms and ammunition," says Hawks spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mulamu.
"They are being charged with armed robbery and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
"It is alleged that in November 2020, a group of unknown heavily armed men wearing Fidelity uniforms and balaclavas tied up security guards to gain entry into the premises.
"The suspects ground down doors leading to the offices to gain entry into the vault and security personnel in the office were held hostage before the suspects made off with approximately R24 million in cash.
"A week after the incident, police traced and arrested three suspects in Protea Glen and Braamfischer, and an undisclosed amount of money was seized.
"The investigation continues and more outstanding suspects are being pursued."
