Gauteng police's Kay Makhubele explains they made the breakthrough while the pair was involved in a crime.
"The two suspects went into a house where they tied the wife and husband, and they robbed them of their belongings inside the house," says Makhubele.
He adds, police were called out to the scene while the incident was taking place.
The suspects are also believed to have targeted students from the University of Johannesburg.
The pair is expected to appear in a local magistrate's court soon.
