Bronkhorstpruit pump installation to start on Tuesday

The City of Tshwane has confirmed that the pump and motor installation at the Bronkhorstpruit Water Treatment Plant will start on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Selby Bokaba confirmed that water supply restoration to affected areas, including Ekangala, Ekandustria, and Rethabiseng, will begin on Wednesday due to increased pumping capacity.
Meanwhile, the city is also pursuing long-term solutions by procuring new pumps and enhancing security measures at the plant.
“The city is working on a long-term future plan not just to repair the pumps in the event of a breakdown but to entirely replace the current ones,” said Bokaba.
“To this end, efforts are underway to procure new pumps and this process will take a little bit of time. Meanwhile, the City is embarking on erecting a new fence around the plant to better secure the plant and prevent access, which we suspect is conducive to sabotage and arson. A contractor has been issued with an instruction to conduct an assessment.
“Furthermore, two new pumps will be ordered for the plant, and additional capacity will be sourced for the technical skills required to improve the management of the plant.”
