Buddy the police dog sniffs out drugs worth R6,5 million

In a separate incident, police intercepted a vehicle in Douglasdale and seized drugs with an estimated value of R 3-million, and arrested two for possession of drugs.

A police service dog has sniffed out drugs worth millions on the West Rand. 


According to the police's Kay Makhubele, detectives of the Gauteng Provincial Organised Crime Investigations narcotics unit and West Rand K9 members operationalised information on a suspected shipment of drugs destined for Australia on Thursday and activated the K9 service dog, named Buddy.


"The SAPS members intercepted the consignment of suspect drugs and arrested four suspects before it could be shipped to Australia," says Makhubele. 


Buddy reacted positively to the contents of the consignment of drugs. 


According to Makhubele, further investigation confirmed that the statue Buddy identified contained 22kg of concealed crystalmeth drugs.


"An immediate on-site investigation determined that the positively identified crystal meth has an estimated street value of R6.5-million," says Makhubele. 


 The four suspects were arrested and charged with possession of drugs.

In a separate incident, police intercepted a vehicle in Douglasdale and seized drugs with an estimated value of R 3-million, and arrested two for possession of drugs.


The arrested suspects are expected to appear in different Magistrate Courts in due course.
