Burning truck closes M1 in Johannesburg

Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla says the road had to be closed after a truck carrying dangerous chemicals caught alight on Tuesday.
The truck was loading dangerous goods when it caught alight.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla says the M1 North in Johannesburg CBD has been closed off.
"The M1 North in Johannesburg CBD has been closed off at Carr Street in Newtown and this is due to chemicals on a truck loading dangerous goods which have caught alight.
"JMPD officers and the City of Johannesburg emergency services are on scene traffic on the M1 north is being diverted onto the M2 east at the Crown Interchange through the Johannesburg CBD. Traffic on the M2 West is diverted to the Selby and Rissik streets exit.”
Fihla has urged motorists to be patient.
"Expect heavy delays, motorists are urged to be patient at this moment while the relevant emergency department is called to put out the flare out."
