Bus rolls backwards, killing two learners

The 47-year-old bus driver, Moseki Lucas Magwaba, remains in police custody after two school children died on the N4 between Swartruggens and Zeerust on Tuesday.

North West Police Spokesperson, Sam Tselanyane, says Magwaba was transporting 49 learners on Wednesday when he allegedly jumped out of the bus without switching off the vehicle.
While the driver was apparently arguing with a passenger, the bus rolled backwards and overturned.
"Some of the learners managed to jump off the bus while it was still reversing. Of the 49 learners, two leaners and both boys, a 19-year-old Sedimogang Moreri and 14-year-old Omphile Moreri were trapped in the bus and certified dead at the scene," says Tselanyane..
He adds 40 other learners sustained minor and severe injuries and were transported to hospital.
Magwaba briefly appeared in the Zeerust Magistrate's Court on Thursday and is expected back on Tuesday at Groot Marico Magistrate's Court where he is expected to make an official bail application.
