#BusStrike: Unions to discuss the way forward
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Transport unions are
expected to meet on Monday to discuss a resolution
to the prolonged strike by bus drivers.
Negotiations between unions and employers hit another hurdle on Friday when employers refused to back pay the workers’ increase from April 1.
Striking employees accepted the proposed 9% wage increase for the first year and 8% for the second year.
The spokesperson for the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) Zanele Sabela says the unions will now discuss the way forward and the different options on the table.
“They (employers) just want to pay from the date of signing and this is the contention right now because workers need that money and they are used to it being backdated,” says Sabela.
