Cabinet ministers spent R1.4bn on parties, dinners, hotels – DA

The DA claims 18 ministers, deputy ministers and their respective departments spent more than R1.4 billion since President Cyril Ramaphosa took office in 2019.

The DA’s Leon Schreiber says the majority of the money was spent during the Covid-19 lockdown.
“New information obtained by the DA through a series of parliamentary questions reveals that during the past three years, the ANC national government spent at least R1.2 billion in public money on accommodation, R157 million on catering, and R12 million on entertainment.”
The biggest spenders on catering, entertainment, and accommodation:
Ronald Lamola’s department of justice and correctional services spent R293 million.
Lindiwe Sisulu’s former departments of human settlements, water, and sanitation spent R252 million.
Angie Motshekga’s department of basic education spent R149 million.
Aaron Motsoaledi’s department of home affairs spent R149 million.
Barbara Creecy’s department of forestry, fisheries, and the environment spent R137 million.
Naledi Pandor’s department of international relations and cooperation spent R127 million.
Blade Nzimande’s department of higher education, science, and innovation spent R74 million.
Zweli Mkhize’s health department spent R67 million.
Gwede Mantashe’s department of mineral resources and energy spent R55 million.
Fikile Mbalula’s transport department spent R34 million.
Ayanda Dlodlo’s public service and administration department spent R26 million.
Patrica de Lille’s public works and infrastructure department spent R22 million.
Stella Ndabeni-Abraham’s small business department spent R12 million.
